Once a prospect is assigned to a gift officer, the prospect stage will change from identification to qualification. It is the gift officer who has to qualify the prospect and determine if the prospect will stay in the gift officers portfolio. Thus, in the qualification stage, the gift officer either determines the prospect is not a major gift donor and disqualifies them, or the gift officer determines that the prospect has potential as major gift donor. If the prospect is qualified as a prospect for major gift donations then they are moved to the cultivation stage where they are cultivated for a major gift.
